Snoopy Crochet Pattern, Part 1.

**Update 5/5/19** This pattern has been re-written and updated. For a much better version, please visit my new website Oh Darn Yarn! See you there!

Ever since I made a crocheted Snoopy doll, many have asked me for the pattern. I have decided to give it away for free. I would like to say that I am a new crocheter and pattern writer, and therefore, the following may contain mistakes. If you see one, please comment below and let me know and I will fix it as soon as possible. Thank you!

Materials:
- White yarn. (I think 1 skein of Red Heart Super Saver Solids should be enough.)
- Black yarn. (I used Red Heart again.)
- Red yarn. (Also Red Heart!)
- Size H crochet hook.
- Big yarn needle.

Note: This pattern is done in rounds. Do not join. Mark the first stitch of every row. Crochet in both loops, unless otherwise stated.

Pattern:

Nose
Using black yarn,
Sc 5 in a magic ring (or ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook).
R1: 2 sc in each sc around.
R2: 1 sc in each sc.
Finish off and leave a long tail to sew on.

Head (working from nose to back of the head)
Using white yarn,
Sc 8 in a magic ring (or ch 2, 8 sc in second ch from hook).
R1: 2 sc in each sc around
R2: *Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around
R3 - R11: 1 sc in each sc around.
R12: In the front loops only: *Sc 1 in next 3 sc, sc 2 in next sc*, repeat around.
R13: *Sc 1 in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around.
R14: 1 sc in each sc around.
R15: 1 dc in each of the next 12 sc, then 1 sc in each sc until the end of the row.
R16: *dc 4, dc2tog*, repeat 3 times.
R17: *Sc 4, sc2tog*, repeat around.
R18 - R20: Sc 1 in each sc around.
R21: *Sc 3, sc2tog*, repeat around.

Note: At this point, you might want to attach your nose. I prefer to work with an "open" head, so that I can hide all my knots, etc. The instructions for facial features are under the head section.

R22: Sc 1 in each sc around.
R23: *Sc 2, sc2tog*, repeat around.
R24: *Sc 1, sc2tog*, repeat around.
R25: Sc2tog around.
R26: Sc2tog around.
Finish off.

Facial features

Eyes
Using black yarn,
I sewed the eyes on right where crochet is in the front loops only. I just "eyed" the locations of the eyes by looking at reference pictures of Snoopy.
Here are my personal specifications (sorry for not using technical terms):
The eyes are 5 "holes" apart from each other.
The eyes are 3 holes long, which means I put the yarn in hole 1, skip a hole, and it comes out of hole 3.

Eyebrows
Using black yarn,
The eyebrows are 2 holes long.
The outside of the eyebrows should vertically match the outside of the eyes
The eyebrows are 2 rows above the eyes.

Nose
Using the nose that you previously crocheted, position it directly center of the face, which is where you first started crocheting, and sew it on with the tail you left on the nose!

Mouth
This is the hardest part of the whole Snoopy. I don't even know where to begin! It would be easier if you have completed the whole face before attempting the mouth.

In the next post, I will show you pictures of my Snoopy's mouth shape, because a picture is much easier than words. I will also post the rest of Snoopy's pattern. Stay tuned!

    1. hello designer of this snoopy pattern, I was reading u are new, I am not new to actually crocheting but I never wrote a pattern, I commend u 4 that very nice, sorry 4 my *shorthand typing* lol anyhow u asked if a mistake was spotted , I do see 1 maybe I am mis-reading but on row 16 of the head, u say dc in 4, dc2tog, 3 times. I couldn't see it working around correctly so I went with 2 times , then sc in the remaining 24. that is the other mistake I saw in row 16 of the head , it didn't say to.

  12. Hello,

I am from Holland and am very glad with this snoopy-pattern. I have a question, though...
I am now at row 16 of snoopy's head. It says: *dc4,dc2tog* repeat 3 times. I think that means: crochet 4x a dc and than 2 dc together. Than is says: do this three times.
At that point I have 18 sc left on this row. What do I do wirh them? Do sc for the rest of the row, or do dc for the rest of the row? Or should I repeat the part between * * 6x instead of 3x???
Hope you can help with this.

Thank you and a greeting from Holland,

    Nelleke

  19. Hello. I did the snoopy and at the row 16 of the head, what I did was: I considered the row 16 finished after the instruction given by the author, then I started in the next point with the row 17. So the end point of the row changed for the rest of the head. I am not sure if this is the right thing to do, but it worked for me. regards. I also have a different pattern for a different snoopy, if someone is interested, please drop a note to svallejo05@yahoo.com Happy day

  20. Thanks! I made one for a friend who is using a Baby Snoopy theme in her baby's room. I altered the pattern a bit to make it look more like Baby Snoopy. Let me know if you are interested in seeing my alterations.

Also, did you create a pattern for a Woodstock doll?

  22. I want to say how much I have enjoyed this pattern! Thank you so much for developing it! I have made two of these little darlings for gifts, one for a nephew who is one year old and another for a grandson who is one month old. I can see this being a pattern that I will come back to time and time again for shower gifts, birthdays, hospital gifts, you name it. I am visioning him with a red heart for Valentines Day, a daisy for a get well gift, the list is endless on what you could do with him. I did add a red collar to mine, it just seemed to set off the white and black. Who doesn't love Snoopy? You did an excellent job writing this up, I found the pattern very easy to follow, and yes! are you thinking about creating a Woodstock??? hint hint hint, lol. Thank you again, for this, it is going in my "repeat offenders" notebook for patterns that I look at frequently.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hello Everyone! first of all I would really like to thank you for sharing your pattern! I have always loved Snoopy and his friends and now I am making yours to my unborn baby girl!
A small note about the head pattern: Indeed, in Row 16 you do as indicated: "*dc 4, dc2tog*, repeat 3 times". Once you finish that, your Row 17 starts! Then, I had a problem following from there, the head was coming out very long, so I decided to skip Rows: 18-20 and 22 and it worked! you can see the final result here: www.yram22.tumblr.com

  43. I have been watching this pattern for a couple of weeks before i decide if i might attempt it... i'm not a clever crocheter.. Can any one tell me if the pattern has been corrected and if there is somewhere of someone that has a completly correct version ?
    thanks Karen

    ReplyDelete
  44. for row 17 just do crochet 4x a dc and than 2 dc together. for 3 times (or whatever the times the instructions call for) and then continue to row 18.

the legs seem to be as wide as the nose, so you can try using that for the beginning, then decreasing to make it a little skinnier and longer for the legs. You can pretty much crochet on the round while making adjustments until you see something the size you like for the legs. and if you don't like what comes out, just undo it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Love the Snoopy! I'm snoopy obsessed! Long live Snoopy! When will you post the rest of the pattern? Thanks!

  48. The only crochet I have done in the past has been the simple granny squares... 1st attempt at the head. Phew! Restart, Legs, tick. Arms, tick. Body, tick. Head....read all comments, hints & variations, especially R16, tick. After starting the assembly I feel the legs are rather fat.. I will redo. A bit shorter and narrower... Otherwise very happy with both my project and the easy to read pattern.

  52. I’m making this Snoopy now. For rows 16 and 17 of the head, I combined the two rows together. So I did the Dc 4, Dc2tog repeat (a total of 4 times overall… once for the original, then 3 more times as the pattern states). Since the directions don’t indicate what to do with the rest of the row, I did row 17 for the remainder of the row. By doing the sc 4, sc2tog to the end of row 16, my stitch count came out correct.

I also had issues with the head being a bit too long, so I did row 18 but skipped 19 and 20. It seemed to help.

  66. I have been trying to understand these abbreviations. Do you think you could make an instructional video?

    ReplyDelete
  67. AWESOME pattern!!! I just finished it today. Super easy to understand. I did 2 changes. Small ones. I crocheted the nose first then just started the head after the last row of nose. One less thing to sew on. :) And for the collar I did a chain of 12 FSC, so it came out a bit wider than a chain. Thank you for giving us this awesome pattern. :) I put mine on Ravelry. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/margieelisabeth/snoopy

    ReplyDelete
  68. Great pattern. It would help if you could put the total stitches per round.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Although stitch counts are nice, if you use a stitch marker, which is pretty much a 'must' when doing amigurumi, stitch counts aren't really needed. Unless of course the pattern is incorrectly written then even stitch counts don't help. I'm just super thankful they shared this pattern with us for free. I didn't find any errors (other than needing a tail which wasn't a big deal). I would gladly have paid for this pattern. And I do test patterns for designers. It ranks up there with some of them!

    1. The easist way to do that is to use thicker yarn, and bigger hook. The math stays the same.

    2. I considered that but I don't think it would turn out as big as I'd like it too

      Delete
  72. Hm, well then, I don't think there's an easy way. If it was a simple shape, then yes just add a few stitches between each increase or decrease. But other than writing a whole new pattern I think you're out of luck. :(

    2. Hi Cheryl! It's FLO that round only, in almost all patterns, you only do FLO or BLO in the round it first says it, unless they say 'in this and remaining rows until told otherwise'. Not all designers do it the same but generally speaking they do. If you have any more questions just ask. I'm glad to help. :)
